Septic systems

Residences that are not served by the municipal sewer system are required to have a septic installation to treat sewage. These installation are governed by the Regulation respecting Waste water disposal systems for isolated dwellings (Q-2, r.8). This provincial regulation is enforced by municipalities for residences of less than six rooms and other buildings that have an outflow of less than 3240 litres/day.

A septic system usually consists of two parts 1) a septic tank and 2) a purifier system. Waste water first flows into the septic tank to separate grease and solid matter. Then the purifier system removes the pathogenic and the water contaminants.

These are the most frequently asked questions.
