Winter is on its way…

Winter can be a real pain! Here are some tips from your Public Works Department for avoiding some of the inconveniences associated with snow removal.

How Snow Removal Works

The state of the roads is evaluated at about 2:45 each morning. The eleven snow removal teams are called into action any time there has been sleet or ice rain, or when at least 2 cm of snow have fallen. This ensures that the roads are safe for the morning rush. Snow clearing begins on the busiest streets before moving on to quieter areas. Please note that private roads are not cleared by the Town.

Help our snow removal teams to work efficiently: please do not park your car in the street between November 15 and March 31.

Avoiding Damage to Mailboxes

Occasionally and unfortunately, mailboxes or garbage bins can be damaged by snow plows. In order to avoid damage and make the machine operator’s work easier, please follow these rules (see illustration below):
  • garbage bins and mailboxes should be placed at least 5.25 metres from the middle of the road
  • mailboxes should be placed 20-30 centimetres from the edge of the road shoulder
  • you must leave 1.15 m of clear space between the bottom of the mailbox and the road shoulder
  • the mailbox itself should be mobile and hang from the support on chains
