Land Advisory Committee
The Land Advisory Committee (CCU) was established pursuant to the Planning Act (R.S.Q. c. A-19.1) which came into force in 1979.
In the Town of Brome Lake such a committee has existed since 1972. In 1988 the by-laws governing the committee were completely revised.
Under the relevant statutes, the Committee, pursuant to section 146 of the Act, is charged with the responsibility of studying and submitting to Council recommendations on all matters concerning town planning, zoning, lot subdivisions, and construction. In addition, the Committee is called upon to make recommendations concerning minor variances. (by-law, section 4).
This is an advisory as opposed to a decision-making committee: it is the Council that must make decisions on any matter that is submitted. Council is not bound to follow the committee’s recommendations.
