Under the supervision of the Public Works Foreman, the incumbent will perform maintenance and repairs on the city's vehicle fleet. The heavy equipment mechanic will also be responsible for inspecting and maintaining heavy and light vehicles, machinery, emergency vehicles, generators, and all motorized equipment belonging to the city. This work includes adjusting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic components. As needed, the incumbent may also perform road operator duties in support of road and municipal infrastructure maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is handy, conscientious, meticulous, organized, autonomous, and has excellent mechanical troubleshooting skills. Autonomy is an essential quality for this position, as the candidate will frequently need to assess situations and make decisions independently while carrying out their duties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the usual maintenance and mechanical work involved in repairing and putting the equipment in good working order.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections (P.E.P).
  • Keep inventory logs of parts and products.
  • Diagnose problems and make repairs.
  • Ensure the compliance and integrity of the vehicles audited.
  • Maintain and repair various motorized equipment or gasoline-powered tools.
  • Install electrical accessories and equipment inside or outside vehicles.
  • Lubricate all types of heavy and light vehicles or equipment.
  • Maintain machinery maintenance records on dedicated software.
  • Keep the mechanical workshop clean.
  • See to the maintenance of the various equipment, according to the schedule.
  • Perform general welding work.
  • Perform all other mechanic tasks.
  • Maintain the workshop's hazardous materials register (SIDMUT).
  • Perform operator tasks.
  • All other related tasks.

Qualifications

  • Diploma of vocational studies in Heavy Machinery Mechanic.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Experience in electronics.
  • Class 1 and 3 driving experience an asset.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
  • Good knowledge of IT tools (Office 365)

Tools to be provided

  • The jobholder must provide the hand tools needed to perform mechanical tasks.

Work Schedule

  • Salary from $33.30 to $37.32 per hour (annual increase based on current collective agreement)
  • 40-hour work week, over a 4.5-day period
  • Availability as needed (evenings and weekends, depending on weather conditions)
