The Town of Brome Lake Inaugurates the Carke Terrace

Brome Lake, July 9, 2025 – The Town of Brome Lake is proud to inaugurate the Carke Terrace, a brand-new public space on the lakefront, located at 393 Bondville Road. This unique recreational area offers privileged access to Brome Lake in a beautiful and welcoming setting.

Begun in 2020 with the acquisition of 13 acres of land, the project is part of the Town of Brome Lake's commitment to improving access to the lake for residents while enhancing recreational opportunities in the Bondville area. With the Carke Terrace, residents can now enjoy a third public access point to Brome Lake, in addition to Tiffany Park and Douglass Beach.

The project was carried out in two phases. The first phase, completed in the summer of 2024, transformed the lakeside property into a welcoming and accessible space. The work included landscaping the site, installing a dock for non-motorized boats, and creating a relaxation and picnic area for users.

The second phase, completed in June 2025, led to the construction of a 900-square-foot building with two separate bathrooms, two outdoor changing rooms equipped with about 15 lockers, and an outdoor shower. A 20-space parking lot was also built to facilitate access to the site. The entire project represents an investment of $1.1 million.

“This project reflects the Town's ongoing commitment to designing accessible, user-friendly spaces that are in harmony with the local heritage,” said Brome Lake Mayor Richard Burcombe. The public is invited to make this new space their own and create unforgettable memories here.”

It should be noted that the Town of Brome Lake acquired the land with the help of the CARKE Foundation, which contributed $600,000.

“The CARKE Foundation is proud to have supported the creation of Carke Terrace, a beautiful new space that gives the community better access to the lake for quiet, non-motorized activities. This project reflects our mission of enhancing the social and recreational life of Brome Lake, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life for everyone to enjoy.”

The Poulin family, former owners of the lot, had donated $250,000.

A New Chapter

With the inauguration of the Carke Terrace, the Town of Brome Lake has taken another step forward in the development of its territory, while honouring the memory of an iconic site in the Bondville sector.

The site is steeped in history, as it was once home to the Terrace Inn, owned by Wilfrid Poulin. The establishment, which opened in the 1950s, became a popular gathering place for concerts and lively evenings in the 1960s and 1970s.

The CARKE Foundation in Brief

Created in the 1970s, the CARKE Foundation is a non-profit organization serving the communities of Brome Lake, West Bolton and Brome. Its mandate is to raise awareness and funds for specific infrastructure projects and community initiatives. The Foundation was notably involved in the fundraising campaign and construction of the Centre Lac-Brome, which was completed in 2006.
