The water level of Brome Lake is currently approximately 13 cm below the historical median for this time of year. This decrease remains relatively moderate given the current hydrological conditions, as several bodies of water in the region are experiencing exceptionally low levels.
Daily dam management has made it possible to maintain the lake at a target level of approximately 196.80 m until the end of August, while maintaining an adequate downstream flow. This management approach aims to balance the preservation of the lake’s water level, the maintenance of ecological flow in the river and the ability to respond to periods of heavy rainfall.
At this time of year, it is normal for the water level to gradually decrease when precipitation and watershed inflows are low. The degree to which the dam gates are open can be adjusted within certain limits, but these adjustments cannot compensate for the lack of natural inflows. The situation therefore remains under control and will continue to be monitored.
As the end of the season approaches, waterfront property owners are encouraged to take the lake’s current water level into account. Without significant rainfall, the level could continue to decline over the coming weeks. Property owners are therefore advised to consider this when planning the removal of docks, watercraft and boat lifts.
